When the results from a comprehensive water quality test show that your well water is high in arsenic, an Arsenic Removal System for the whole house may be recommended to reduce/eliminate the arsenic in your drinking water. This system uses two tanks placed in series: the first tank, called the lead tank, uses iron oxide media to adsorb the arsenic; the second tank, called a guard tank, provides protection when the lead tank is exhausted. Once the media in the lead tank has exhausted its ability to remove arsenic, the media must be replaced. Regular testing of water from the lead tank is necessary to determine when the media is exhausted. This service includes both the Iron Arsenic Removal System and the installation.
Why Remove Arsenic From Your Well Water?
Arsenic is a naturally-occurring element found in geological formations and groundwater. A small amount of arsenic found in groundwater may be a result of human activity, such as mining, smelting and coal-fired power generation, as well as historical use of arsenic-containing pesticides. Arsenic exposure can result in both chronic (long-term) and acute (short-term) health effects. Chronic effects include increased risk of lung, bladder and skin cancer, as well as numerous cardiovascular, neurological, and respiratory diseases, and skin lesions. Chronic exposure to arsenic in drinking water – even below regulatory limits – has been also associated with deficits in children’s cognitive and motor functions. Acute effects can include nausea, vomiting, neurological effects such as numbness or burning sensations in the hands and feet, cardiovascular effects and decreased production of red and white blood cells which may result in fatigue.
